St. Louis Dialysis Facilities Celebrate a First
On December 17, 2009, G-Force and teammates from two St. Louis dialysis facilities celebrated a first with the grassroots program. Missouri State Representative Kenny Biermann visited two dialysis facilities in the St. Louis area to complete a full day of learning with DaVita. These visits follow the State Representative's participation in the St. Louis Kidney Awareness Walk/Run this past fall.
State Rep. Biermann began the day by visiting Lake St. Louis. After touring the facility and meeting with teammates, he spoke with patients who shared their life stories and experiences on how kidney disease has affected them.
Later that day, Rep. Biermann traveled to St. Louis West PD to attend an EMPOWER class. Rep. Biermann spent two hours with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients from the community who were participating in the "Making Healthy Choices" class for people with CKD Stages 4/5. He was most impressed with how the information was presented by the dietitian, social worker and nurses. All the expertise in one room made a strong impact.
Way to go St. Louis teammates, this is the first time any lawmaker has attended an EMPOWER class!
